Scent composition data reveal new insights into perfume success.

Scents have always been a thing to show up your personality and attract people towards you. In early 1800’s it was a popular and most effective beauty kit for women. The days passed and it became popular among men too. Today, the days of kings and queens have gone but the days of perfume is still there. People more likely to come close to

people who have a nice smell. Women prefer it too.

On July 3, 2019, a research was made on perfumes by Vaiva Vasiliauskaite and Tim Evans from Imperial college of London, UK.The journal named as PLOS ONE was opened to be accessed by all. The findings by this result were quite astonishing to the whole world of perfume industry and many perfume making companies were surprised by the result. The mathematical data analysis was done on the popularity and customer ratings which were given by the customers online. The online data was taken into account and the popular and most rated perfumes were analysed on the basis of the ingredients they contained.

Basically, this analysis report showed that how the presence of a particular ingredient in a perfume makes them popular among customers even if they do not come from most popular and luxurious brands.

How perfume is made?

Each and every perfume contains a lot of ingredients for their particular fragrance. They contain many olfactory and oily which together combines to give a unique aroma. The smell of a perfume is often referred to as notes and the combination of different notes make an accord.

For example, vanilla is a note but when it is mixed with jasmine or any natural essence of floral it becomes an accord. Taking into account the smell of a perfume which is popular among consumers, the study was made of what ingredients they are made up of. It is because most of the perfumes are popular among people only because of its good smell and not because of the brand associated with that. Therefore, a complex network analysis was made which is only done as a mathematical analysis.

Therefore, 100o notes were taken from the 10000 perfumes available for online sales.

Findings of the Complex Network Analysis

The research started with having more focus on the customer ratings and the popularity of a perfume. The analysis report shows that the most popular notes and the generally used accords had no relation on it popularity. Though, the accords made up of jasmine and mint notes were highly rated but they were not present on most of the perfumes.
It also came out of the analysis that many popular fashion brands perfumes were successful ones but it had nothing to do with its cost and launch date or year.

Word from the Authors

“We analysed info on perfumes and their odour descriptors-notes-as an intricate system to obtain insights about how watch compositions, known as accords, influence achievement of scents. Accords that are inclined to be found in perfumes which get customer evaluations were got by us, as an instance, an accord composed of Lavender Geranium and Oakmoss. This work presents a framework that is a timely instrument for perfumers to research a multidimensional area of odour compositions.”

Conclusion

All of these output of the complex network analysis showed that if the perfume companies start to do this network analysis then they can even have more successful perfumes than they have now. As they can use the perfect notes and accords that are popular among consumer at that time. This must be done by every perfume making brand once a year to know the consumer behaviour towards particular note and accord.…

5 Best Scents from 80’s

There were a lot of things that were overboard in 80’s and scents were one of them. In the year of 1987, the whole of high schools’boys used to go for Polo and drakker but at the same time the sweet fragrance of these legendary perfumes were always there.

I was not an exception and my signature perfume can be smelt from a long distance.
Today, I have brought to you the 5 best perfumes from 80’s whose packing and fragrance, both were amazing.

Liz Claiborne – My personal Favorite

Liz Claiborne, no one can forget this. It used to come in a triangle bottle in different colours. Choose either yellow, blue or red the quality or the fragrance remained the same for all. This perfume was introduced in the year 1986 and it was some of the bottles that every girl/women wanted to have for them. It smelled so fresh and clean that I used to feel like a women going to office. So fresh and so refreshing fragrance. I would love to have one now too if I can get it!!

Colors by Benetton – Even Wrote on My Diary

This perfume from Benetton was introduced in 1987 and was available on all the big shops in large stocks. The shopkeepers used to display it to attract customers too. The smell was very energetic and the notes if I am not wrong were marigold, vanilla, and orange blossoms. All of these fragrances were used to keep us fresh whole day long. I even remember the day when I got this bottle of Benetton in my Christmas present. I was so excited that I even wrote about this in my diary.

Camp Beverly Hills

If you are camping in a Panama Beach, then it was the perfume that you would certainly want to get to smell similar as California. I badly wanted this perfume. One of the reason behind this was that with every camp Beverly Hills bottle one pink colored jacket was given to the customers as a free gift. The jacket was so good and has a brand logo on the back that it felt like being a girl from the same gang of Beverly Hills. I had to be in queue for 2 hours to buy this perfume.

Once I applied it, I used to smell like bergamot, orange blossom and ylang-ylang. So this was secret to smell like California even without going there.

Fendi

This perfume may not be looking as the one having serious note but it was for the older generation. Certainly, not for me. But I got this as a gift from by boyfriend. The strong woodsy smell was not a good idea for me. It contained carnation, nutmeg and patchouli notes joined together to form an accord which was drowning for anyone. But, let me tell you that it may had a strong fragrance but it was a perfect to apply for your first date and on your honeymoon nights.

Obsession

Do you know who made this perfume? Calvin klein!! This signature perfume was introduced in the year 1985 and I can say it without any second thought that this was the mother of all the perfumes of 1980’s. I can never forget that musky, spicy, sandalwood smell that used to make my day. The color of the bottle also looked very cool and stylish those days. Just check out the TV commercial of this, which showed white and black men playing chess and the tagline of the perfume “OH THE SMELL OF IT.”

Wrapping it up

It is just a week earlier and while I was walking on my free time around the streets and I suddenly saw the store of the “Liz Claiborne”. For me, it was like I found God. I just ran to the store and found out my favourite one and took it. For me, it was like just going back to my high school days.
I was just hoping that if I could find a store of “Fendi” now and can smell same as I was on my first date.…

Making Scents with Princess Cruises

One of the largest company by revenue, Princess Cruises is headquartered in Santa Clarita, California. The owner of Princes Cruises  is carnival Corporation & plc. The company was founded in 1965 and owns more than 17 ships.

Its ship Pacific Princess was used in a TV series The Love Boatand from this the company gained a lot of popularity. The company was founded by Stanley McDonald. The company has nothing to do with the perfume industry but recently it organised a perfume making session. It was hosted by Princess Cruises in many South Asian countries. It was said that this session was organised as a part of travel advisor’s programme by Princess cruises.

The sessions became a hit as the hand- made perfumes are very liked in South Asian countries. Many people took part in it and even learnt the ways of making hand-made perfumes. It changes the mood of every person out there and even worked as an energy enhancing way to its employees and travellers.

Farriek Tawfik words on The Hand Made scent sessions

According to the director of the Princess Cruises of South Asia, Farriek Tawfik, They organised these sessions for the travel advisors of the Princess cruise who used to work hard without any break and give their best to provide support to Princess cruise. He further said that everyone used to organize lunch or dinner party for their advisors but they wanted to do something unique which would provide them a little relaxation from their stressful jobs and can uplift their good moments. Since, Princes is now sailing for more than 380 destinations worldwide so they celebrated this moment too in this sessions. They also showed off their old and wonderful memories of cruising so far.

It is said that sixty-five percent of the memories of the Human are triggered by scents. Even a person can remember scent of a particular thing for more than a year and can even recognize it if they feel the same scent nearby.

Tawfik also said that on a cruise the scent plays an important part. The smell of ocean breeze, the wood wafting smell on a cruise and the scent of a spa can never be forgotten on a cruise. On the other hand, these scents trigger a lot of emotions inside us resulting in an awesome and memorable experience.

What was the challenge of the sessions?

This session was a pure fun. In this session, the participants were given full freedom to choose from herbs to tea leaves or even the florals and make a fragrance that would describe their personality. These unique fragrances prepared by them were sealed in a 20 ml bottle which was given to them to take it to their homes. The sessions were organised in such a way that the scents were tailor made according to the local country scents. In different countries, different notes were used. Such as in Singapore people used orchid floral whereas in Malaysia Hibiscs, the national flower of Malaysia was used. Apart from this, Teak was used in Indonesia.

These sessional created a friendly and non-formal environment for the fellow persons to enjoy and build their work relationship even more better and well bonded. After the session, a new planned route of journey was also given for the 2020-2021. The 2020-21 sessions for Asia, New Zealand and Europe were also discussed among the travel advisors.

Conclusion

The sessions used by Princess cruises is one of its kind but it is very useful for a company to do such activity among their employees so that they can get back to their homes with a memory and can remember these days even when they would not be a part of the cruise. According to me, it would have certainly created a good bonding between the advisors and from now on they would have a great and good bonded relationship with a lot of memories of each other.

The 6 Strange-Sounding Places You Should *Really* Be Applying Your Perfume

Whether you got a scent from a luxurious brand like à la Marilyn Monroe or from a general one, you apply it all over your body to make yourself smell good all day long. Most of us even carry perfume bottle with us to apply during the mid-day time just to smell good in front of our boss or clients.

Perfumes has a long relationship with women. Women have been using it from decades. Therefore, we discussed it with many experts and people from fashion industry and here are our findings. We have pointed out 6 places where you just have to apply perfume once to remain fresh all day long.

6 places to apply perfume on your body

If you want to smell good, all day long and don’t want to carry your perfume bottle with you always then go through all the 6 strange places where you must apply your perfume.

1) Apply on Hair

It must be sounding a little awkward but believe me it’s the secret that fashion industry people don’t say it. But when you have to apply it on hair you have to be a little cautious. Since, alcohol dries very quickly, therefore, you just don’t have to apply it like you apply oil or serum on your hair. It has to be done with the brush so that it gets spread all over your hair. So, sprintz perfume on your hair brush and then comb your hair to keep your hair smell good all day long.

2) Apply behind the Ears

Just like people apply perfume on their wrist specially women in the same manner applying behind your ears are also considered as the best place to apply scents. This is because the area behind your ears is very impulsive and does have veins too. When sweat comes out there it amplifies the smell of the perfume. Thereby, increasing the good smell surrounding you.
Most women apply perfumes on their neck but if you are wearing jewellery then you must not apply there. As it may cause to lose the lustre of the jewellery.

3) Apply down your back

This is the place which all women would not be aware of. It also sounds a little bit awkward but according to Chandler Burr, popular fragrance expert, it is the best place as your strong perfume will not be overbearing for the people around you. On the other hand, your fragrance will remain for all day long.
For applying you just have pull your clothes up and spray on the down part of your back and cover it with your cloth. If you use a light fragrance, then you should apply twice but in case of vice versa apply a single time. Applying here, makes everyone feel like it’s your body scent and not an applied one. People would like to come closer to you.

4) Apply Inside elbows

This place is just an alternative to your wrists. But perfume fragrance applied here remains for a longer duration of time. Before spraying perfume to your elbows be sure to moisturize your full hands.

5) Apply behind your knees

All of us know the rule of science that when heat rises and evaporation occurs, hot air moves upwards and cold air comes down. So, behind your knees would be the best place to apply perfume which keeps on evaporating whole day in summer. So, it sounds better to apply behind your knees. There is one more reason behind this. The area behind your knees are also the same as your elbows back side and acts as pulse points. Therefore, it becomes more logical part of your lower body where you can apply scent.

6) Apply on your Belly Button

Belly Button is not just meant for piercing. You can use it for many more things. This also acts as a pulse points and radiates a lot of heat. So, just put a single drop of scent in your belly button and you would see the magic for whole day.

It is good to apply especially when you wear a crop top or your favourite bikini. Going on a ride with your friend or going for a date, never miss this spot.…
